Friday Photo Shoot Out: Skylines

I apologise if this week's Shoot Out is kind of lame. Confluence of circumstances. First, there's not much of interest in the way of skylines in town. Second, it was cold and wet out and the light was poor. Third, I wasn't hit with one of those creative moments that make the lack of natural material irrelevant.
Okay, there are some interesting skylines, just nowhere to photograph them from, unless you have friends with upper-story balconies facing the right way.

This is over at the university campus. Some of the worst architecture in town!
I was up there Thursday morning to teach
There's a real love of naked concrete in buildings from the 1950's through the 80's. People tell me they like the modern look of it. Until modern moved on to glass. I guess compared to the stone of previous periods, it was new and different.

This is the current skyline around my building. Changes every day!
The Cancer Center is the white building in the center and our administrative offices are in the little annex off to the right. I'm in the teeny building squeezed between them that you can't really see from here.

View from our front step. Since I took this picture on Sunday they've already covered this field of reinforcing rods with a smooth layer of concrete. (The base of the crane is just barely out of view to the left.)

Then on the other side of the whole complex, this is the skyline of the main hospital, with the med students' dorm on the left and the med school classroom & admin buildings on the right.
That's all for this week. I will be posting something next week (not least because for that topic I have plenty of great material already shot!), though possibly not on time because I'll be on my way to Paris that day and from there to California. So internet access may be difficult.

I can't help myself all things French are beautiful. and all buildings 50s-80s are ungainly, stark, usgly. take you's and put in metal windows and modern dirt from polution and you have Rio.... incredible how the newer architecture overlaps cities and even Continents.
I like your long and skinny photo - good wide angle shot

That 2nd shot of the tall alley is amazing.

Actually, despite your initial disclaimer, I thought that your skylines were great, the lighting perfect, and your creativity high. I also liked the stuff your shot around your hospital because it gave me a real sense of what your daily, phoneless, existence is like. Hospital research. And your journaling -- the handwritten stuff that needs transcribing -- like "Louis and Clark wandering through modern science."

I have a phone, Mark, it just has a cord tying it to a building. It can't follow me everywhere like a dog.

Thanks for your comment. I've just been awfully tired the latter part of the week. Hooray for the weekend and a chance to sleep all day.

So nice to have wonderful skylines. We are so flat I really struggled with this subject.
I enjoyed your's.

Quite the dramatic juxtaposition of the old and the new, Nancy! Sadly, the thing about modern architecture is that it could be anywhere in the world, sort of like MacDonalds. It say nothing about the local place anymore.

That's one extensive addition to the hospital, going on! Very impressive.

I look forward to visiting you every week: our FSO French Connection, a little window on your surroundings. It is ALWAYS good to see what you have to say.

Boy, for someone that doesn't have any skylines, you sure did a great job! I especially like the second photo!!!

I like the second photo, sort of looked French to me. I wasn't enthused about this theme, either, to start with but am really enjoying looking at the skylines of others and now think it's a great them.

That cranes over the constructed buildings is a familiar sights here in Singapore. I just need to look out my window and I can see them!

At first glance, I can say am in France. Architectural buildings are really amazing! Although the weather is kinda gloomy as I can see in your photos but your shots are somewhat classy.

I just love the second shot - that was a really interesting and beautiful way to frame the tower in the background.
