Friday Photo Shoot Out: Yard Stuff

This weeks' theme sounded pretty easy at first, but walking around with my camera I realised that taking pictures of other people's yards, unless you're good friends or something, just isn't done around here. Yards are your private space, even the part that's visible from the street. Lots of people put up fences or hedges, but when they don't it doesn't mean feel free to photograph. I've even been stopped in the marketplace because certain vendors didn't want to share the rights to their image.
Irises next to my driveway.
My front yard, with the roses overgrowing the path to the front door. I never use that door, so it tends to get pretty wild.

Then here's my dad, mowing his yard in Arkansas. No pix of the front yard. It's more lawn, under trees. All the fun stuff is in the back yard - the vegetable boxes, the waterfall under construction, the birdfeeders...

I have that problem with privacy too, Science Girl.

Somehow Patty manages to get everyone to co-operate joyfully, while I'm running for cover.

Great to see the photos of your dad! And when he's finished there can you send him over to my place?

You did a great job. I also found some challenges getting pictures of peoples yards. Of course we want to be respectful - but some yards are so beautiful and it is a shame we can't capture images of them. Still and all - good job.

Hey, Dad, let's go visit Mark; I'm definitely up for a road trip to Charleston. As long as it involves crossing Alabama.

I felt sneaky taking pictures of my neighbors' yards, yeah. I don't think any of them have taken shots of my yard, that's for sure. Anyway, I like your rose-covered entrance; it must smell really nice.

I have to admit that it never occured to me to take photos of other's yards, when of course that was the intent of this theme... I thought all along of only my yard... hum.... thank goodness you said this about privacy because this would be an issue here also... now I have an excuse. your dad in Arkansas? your not French?

Oh, here I am and now wishing I could have some apricots, love them, and love making so many dishes with them!

Love the tomato banner too, and am envious of all these yards with room for gardens!

I would also balk taking a photo of someone's garden, had I not asked first.

People are funny about their privacy and picture taking. I felt like a private detective jumping out of the car, snapping a photo, running back to the car and quickly driving away!

We have an advertising agency and make commercials for our clients. We have people sign consent forms if they are in the commercials. I'm always surprised at how many people adamantly do not want their face in anything. Not even the back of their heads.

I love your Dad's back yard!!!

It seems like your photos were also a social experiment! Note to self: the French don't like their yards being photographed. Dully noted.

Thanks for the extended family post. Your dad must be a good father to have raised such a terrific girl.
