Creative Blogger Award

A great Thank You to Monda at No Telling for the Creative Blogger award. I've never been honored with such an award before, and I can tell you, it feels really good! I love your blog too, doubly so because you live pretty near my parents in Mountain Home, and it's kind of like hearing from the adopted home town there.

Rules? An award that comes with orders?
Errr, ok.

The Rules:
1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
4. Name 7 things about yourself that people might find interesting.
5. Nominate 7 Creative Bloggers.
6. Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they have been nominated.
.
Seven blogs that tickle me just now, though it is so hard to choose just 7:
.
All these blogs I just love. Some are roll-on-the-ground funny, some make me think quite seriously. You guys make me feel connected, and those of you who read my blog, I'm just astounded that you do.
.
And seven things you might find interesting about me:
hmmm, I dunno. It's up to you to say what you find interesting. But if I were to guess...
.
1. When I was a kid I never thought of becoming a scientist. I always wanted to be an artist. Then I discovered genetics in college, and found that, while I could draw in my spare time with not much equipment, the same could not be said for molecular biology.
.
2. I don't have a car. It's one of my little ways of saving the planet, along with eating seasonally & locally (often from my own yard).
.
3. I hated Yale. I spent 18 months there as a post-doc and found it to be a horrible pressure-cooker where what mattered most was the size of the journal your next paper was appearing in. Dog eat dog science. Perhaps I would have enjoyed the super-intellectual environment more if I'd had the luck to have something publishable myself, but I doubt it.
.
4. I sing in the car. Yes, well, I don't have one, but I do love a good road trip so when I used to have a car and I'd take off for the weekend, it would be filled with song. I do not, however, sing in the shower.
.
5. I like to do sudokus upside-down or sideways, so the numbers don't really look like numbers. In fact, I'd love to find a sudoku generator that uses symbols other than numbers - anybody know of one? It's because the puzzle has nothing to do with numbers, but they help because it's easier to spot which one is missing from a series. Take that crutch away and the puzzle is more challenging.
.
6. I miss Hot Tamales, flavored coffees, Mexican food, and the beach, but am not willing to give up cheese, trains, Europe & Africa on my doorstep, and 5+ weeks vacation.
.
7. you tell me!

Congrats. And 6 Interesting facts. I can't even pronounce sudokus let alone do them.I've never heard of Hot Tamales, is it an illness, a pop star, or a race horse? Thanks for passing on the award this way.

Hot Tamales are a fat-free candy. Says so right on the box. They are slightly gummy cinnamon things that you either love or don't. I'm partial to the extra-hot ones, but I can only find them at WallMart and I hate shopping there. So I get all conflicted worrying about buying things too cheaply to pay a decent salary to the person at the checkout counter, but then go get a 6-month supply anyway because there are no cinnamon candies of any kind in France.
