The Auvergne region is littered with old volcanos. Nothing active, but they do provide a distinctive building material. Most of our official buildings are made of the black stone from a nearby quarry, but today I'll show you just one, a church that's tucked away on a little-used street just a few blocks from the train station.
I would have taken a really nice perspective shot, but it started to rain properly and that was enough for me!
Orange tomorrow, promise!
Other shootouts are here.

Stunning church!
I love your black buildings. It seems a little strange to me to see a predominately black church but it is so beautifully done!
Hello, you have become my 90th follower, and although I know it doesn't really mean that much I thought: 'gosh I'll pop over and see who this is.' Glad I did, this is a wonderful blog, I will add you to my list too.
I can't decided if I like the church or not, it seems a little austere, but I can imagine that on a hot day with a bright blue sky it would look pretty good.
When I first visited Glasgow all the buildings were black and everyone assumed it was the stone, or I did. Then they embarked on a project to clean them all, and now they are a lovely pale gold, which suits the grey Scottish atmosphere much better.
Hello Eryl!
The buildings in Glasgow sound a lot like what happened to the U of M campus while I was at school in Minneapolis. An old ugly stone building, mostly black, got cleaned and everyone was flabbergasted to find an amazing design in cream and golden sandstone. It had been dirty so long nobody remembered the gorgeous façade. Thanks for reading!
Wow, the workmanship on that church is impressive.
Beautiful church. I like the idea of splitting the black and orange into two shots! More to look forward to tomorrow.
I loved it. I'm a big fan of old churches, castles and cathedrals. I even love really old building.
That is a very stunning church. Happy weekend.
Black & Orange
What a beautiful building! How rare that kind of time and expense is taken on buildings today.
so magnificent. I am amazed at the work, detail and workmanship that went into building the church. I could gaze at it for hours.
