To zebra or not to zebra
that is the question
whether t'is nobler in the mind
to keep one's regular appointment
and blog about blather because it's that day of the week
or to take arms against conformity and lack of imagination
and by opposing them regain our freedom.
What say you, Hermia? Be advised, fair maid,
the Shootout and the Bus approacheth.

Very nicely done. I do sometimes question routines in blogging, but keep sinking in to them for some reason, they're a comfort blanket I guess!!
I have amazingly been able to avoid 99% of the memes and all of the routines. I do not like being told what to do.
They're fun when you're interested in the topic, and can be a great occassion to think of something you wouldn't have thought of otherwise. I would never have written any of those poems were it not for the Poetry Bus, and some of them I very happy with. Sometimes I do my best work with a theme I initially thought dull or stupid - just trying to prove it wasn't! And of course I do skip some. Many.
The thing about two of the three memes I do regularly is that those are the posts that generate the vast majority of comments. OK, often 'loved it!' and that's all, but still, it shows somebody came by, and they liked it. I am a junkie for feedback, and until I get on Blog of Note or something and find myself with 843 followers, linking to the meme clearinghouse is the main way people find me.
Love the lines, but I want the zebra! Who else does zebras? Keep the zebra!
Etc.
It most certainly is the question. And I really enjoyed the way you asked it!
Shakespeare would be honored.
