Pubpoem

This week's Poetry Bus is driven here by Kat, and our task is to take the name of our favorite pub, turn that into characters, and write a fun poem with these characters. Well, my favored place for a beer and a big-screen rugby match happens to be called the Garden Ice. Who knows why. Neither "garden" nor "ice" is french, and when you put them together it still doesn't say anything.

I leapt up in the morning
happy for Saturday
bright sun through the window
cats fervently wanting out
Let's go out and pick fall leaves from the lawn
and taste the last apples from the trees.
I open the door
and the cats come barreling back in
It's cold out, Mom!
the garden is covered in ice!
December has come.

I lived this with our Kasper and Snowball for twenty four years in Minnesota!!! It got dangerous for them to think about going outside.

PS... they didn't live twenty four years, Kasper for eighteen and Snowball for six.

Our cats also dislike like the snow - except if it's falling outside the window, but they are strictly classified, as indoor cats
and stay inside.

Lovely take on my prompt, Nanu. Will post you in my sidebar.

Dear Nanu: Oh I love the sky-high kitty on the chimney! You've got your own chim chim chimney sweeping cat! Your poem about cats not wanting to go outside during the cold is so understandable! My two (an orange tabby and calico feel exactly the same way! I love cats! Your poem is an Ode to Joy!
"I leapt up in the morning" Who does that! You've got jumping beans?:)

I actually leapt out of bed this morning to the sound of wild turkeys gobbling outside my window. I got up happy and laughing.

I'd have told them to get their backsides out there pronto. Cats have it too cushy. Lovely little snapshot of life.

Hey, I had a cat named Casper, in Minnesota, and yes he did go out and frostbit his ear and had a lopsided head after that.

Dogs will like _anything_, Niamh. No discrimination at all.

Dogs will roll in poo. 'Nuff said.
(Not that I don't love 'em, of course!)

I want to point out that my dogs EAT poo, as long as it is the delicate poo of a cat. My cats have the brains to dine on real food and are neat as pins.
This is, as someone has told you, a wonderful Ode to Joy!
